About Kae Shummoogum
Kae Shummoogum was born on the tiny island of Mauritius and left in 1976 to pursue further studies in London, England. He obtained a Bachelor degree in Electrical and Electronics engineering in 1981 shortly after immigrated to Canada. In 1983 Kae became a registered Professional Engineer in the province of Alberta. He is fluent in English, French and Patois.
After a few years as a gas detection specialist, Kae realized there was a need to supply and service parkade carbon monoxide monitors to the commercial buildings downtown. He formed Gasonic Instruments Inc to cater for this need and rapidly grew the company to service most of the parkades in Calgary.
During the early nineties, Kae studied the performance of several sensor technologies installed in two major Calgary parkades and came up with amazing results in enhancing the safety of CO system while reducing the impact on energy consumption of ventilation systems. Based on this research over 200 buildings have been upgraded to improve safety and lower energy costs.
Kae has been called on for his expertise after several incidents involving high level of CO in parkades and his recommendations were quickly implemented. The death of a business owner from forklift exhaust has highlighted the need for more awareness to the problem of the silent killer. Kae was features on CTV news recently and also writing an article for ‘ business in Calgary’ magazine on CO safety.
Kae has a passion about the environment and has implemented many energy saving ideas such as a fleet of hybrid vehicles, a smart car, wind energy for the his office, thermal solar water heater for his house. He even has his own wind power generator. Kae is among 200 canadians trained by Al Gore to present the ‘inconvenient truth’ to audiences in Alberta.
